I bob in the water,
surround by fins.
My limbs are gone.

                                                  Only a flesh wound.

The salt water burns.
Blue sea bleeds
crimson red.

                                                  I scream.

Sharp teeth tear.
Over and over
and over again.

                                                  I die.

My eyes open.
I am whole once more.
I start to swim.

Then the music begins.

Notes: From August 2018. Written on one of my final weekend journeys from Chicago to my new home town. I remember riding on Amtrak, watching the sunset, and feeling so helpless. Sadly, I feel so helpless now. Guess it goes to show, no matter how much things change...
